Pilkington Activ™ uses UV energy from the sun, abundant even on cloudy days, to keep windows naturally clean. It break down and loosens dirt on the glass surface which is washed away by rain.

How It Works

  • A photocatalytic process — loosens dirt and gradually breaks down organic residue so it doesn’t adhere to the glass

  • A hydrophilic action — causes rain to sheet on the glass, carrying dirt away with minimal spotting or streaking

Recommendations

For best results, the Pilkington Activ™ coating should face the outside of the building on surface #1.


It can be used in a monolithic or standard insulating glazing unit (IGU) application, just needing a few days of daylight to activate.

When paired with Pilkington Energy Advantage™ or Pilkington Solar-E™ low-e glass on the interior lite of an IGU, it offers both energy efficiency and low maintenance.
